How the MirageDrive works
Each Hobie Mirage model has the patented MirageDrive pedaling system. You pedal by stepping alternately left and right, not unlike an exercise stepper, to drive two underwater flippers that work much like a penguin's fins. The result is surprising speed and ease.
- Easy to use, quiet, and creates no splash
- Leaves your hands free for fishing, photography or holding a drink
- Much faster and more efficient than paddling, because the large muscles in your legs produce more power than your arms
Built to glide and keep you dry
Each Hobie kayak is a seamless, roto-molded hull: sturdy, stable and swift. All Hobie kayaks have a closed-deck design with self-draining scuppers and seats to keep you dry. Sure-grip handles fore and aft make them easy to carry, most models offer on-deck paddle storage, and molded-in cup holders are standard.

In summer 2016, Hobie launched the Mirage Eclipse and created a new category of on-water fun by adding pedal-driven agility to the walk-on-water sensation of a surfboard. Stand tall aboard an incredibly stable board and just get on and go using MirageDrive leg power. Carve turns with fingertip steering controls, and go from the car, the dock or your boat to the water in minutes. The board is lightweight and durable, with gear tie-downs and a carefree kick-up rudder. Cruise solo, with your partner, or with a group.
